What We Believe

  1. Education is a basic human right that can only be carried out on a large scale by the public entity which represents the public interest.
  2. Public Education is under attack by powerful interests in the private sector looking not only to profit but also to perpetuate their ideology and produce a mollified consumer class.
  3. The teacher unions have been somewhat effective looking out for self-interest and staving off wholesale privatization but have not engaged in the real struggle against the creep of privatization.
  4. Without a firm commitment to the core principles of unionism, the forces of privatization have effectively divided us.
  5. Therefore, it is imperative we do the following things:
    1. educate our members about the role of the union in promoting and preserving effective education for all,
    2. educate our members about the role, motivation, and methodology of the privatization movement,
    3. engage our members in a discussion about the roots and core of unionism--the power of the people against the exploitative forces of privatization exists only when we all stand together,
    4. go out and educate the public about these issues,
    5. build coalitions with other like-minded groups and other unions
